Acne scars affect approximately 75% of individuals who have experienced acne, often leaving permanent marks that impact confidence and self-esteem. Among the most effective treatments available are subcision and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. When used together, these techniques work synergistically to enhance scar remodeling and skin rejuvenation, reducing the number of sessions needed to achieve visible results.

What Is Subcision?

Subcision is a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to treat depressed acne scars, such as rolling and boxcar scars. During the procedure, a specialized needle is inserted beneath the skin to break the fibrous bands that tether the scar to underlying tissue. By releasing these bands, subcision lifts the scar, promoting collagen production and natural healing.

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is an advanced regenerative therapy that utilizes the patient’s own blood. After drawing a small amount of blood, it is processed to isolate platelet-rich plasma, which is rich in growth factors. These growth factors accelerate tissue repair, stimulate collagen production, and improve overall skin texture. When injected into treated areas, PRP enhances the results of subcision, leading to faster healing and more significant scar reduction.

Procedure:

  1. Consultation: A thorough assessment is conducted to determine the type and severity of acne scars and assess the patient’s suitability for treatment.

  2. Subcision: Using a fine needle or cannula, the fibrous bands beneath each scar are carefully released.

  3. PRP Injection: Immediately after subcision, PRP is injected into the treated scars to maximize healing and collagen stimulation.

  4. Post-Procedure Care: Patients are advised on aftercare, including gentle skincare and sun protection.
